Kilworth Tennis News
Autumn Doubles: The final of our Autumn Doubles tournament took place on Wed. Sept 27th. Team Lendl from Section A (Brendan Lyons, John Walsh and Ursula Gubbins) qualified to play Team Williams ( Matt Bermingham, Michael Walsh and Aileen Ryan) from Section B. The format for the final was the same as for the preliminary rounds – a men’s doubles followed by two mixed doubles. The winners would be the team with most games won. In the men’s Brendan and John got off to a very good start but Matt and Michael finished the stronger and ran out 6-2 winners.
In the first mixed the results were reversed with John and Ursula defeating Michael and Aileen by the same score. This meant that the winners of the second mixed would decide the issue without having to resort to a countback. The second mixed proved to be a very close contest but Michael and Aileen pulled away at the end and won by 6 games to 3. This tournament went off well although we had one night cancelled due to weather. A special thanks to Tom Murray and Marie Barry for all the work they put into making this such a success. Thanks also to all those who took part and the few that we called upon at short notice to fall in. Well done to our winners and beaten finalists.
Club Night: If you fancy some social tennis or are thinking of taking up the game why not come along on Thursday nights. Club night starts at 8pm. The format is doubles. All matches are just 4 games so there is plenty of variety.
