Club News 5th May 2016

Club AGM

Our AGM was held in Kilworth Sports Complex on Tuesday 26 April. Our outgoing Chairman, Tom Murray welcomed everybody and opened the meeting. Following the adoption of last year’s minutes, we had the treasurer’s and secretary’s reports. These reports were most comprehensive and reflected the hard work put in by our top table and sub-committees resulting in a good year to look back on.

Our club continues to be very active and our membership is slightly up on last year. However we are always looking for new members and anybody who fancies a bit of tennis in social surroundings would be most welcome and well looked after.

Coaching will be provided as required. Last year we had four internal tournaments, all of which were well supported. We entered three teams in the North Cork League, hosted by our good friends and neighbours in Mitchelstown and two of these teams reached the finals.

Club Officers 2016

The officers elected for the coming year are as follows – Chairman Tom Murray, Vice Chairman Bill Hennessy, Recording Secretary Geraldine Dunne, Tournament Secretary Cian O’Meara, Treasurer Marie Barry, PRO Bill Hennessy, Asst PRO Conor Cooney, Online Development Rebecca Clark, Tournament Director Liam Magnier.

Club Tournament

Our first competition of this year, sponsored as usual by the Sports Complex will be starting shortly, so watch this space.

Our year starts on April 1st and the membership fees are as follows: Family  E180, Individual adult E115, Senior Adult E60, Full time student E45, Juniors 13-16 E25, Juniors under 13 E15., Family 2 year E300, Individual adult 2 year E205.

Kilworth Tennis Club is part of Kilworth Sports Complex, as are the squash and handball clubs. Members of the tennis club have automatic membership of these two clubs.

Club Facilities and Maintenance

We have two floodlit artificial grass courts which are maintained by the Sports Complex. This spring the Sports Complex hired a specialist contractor to carry out a rejuvenation of our courts. This involved the removal of all the existing sand, the cleaning of the all-weather carpet and the application of new sand. This was an expensive process but is well worth it as it adds years to the lifespan of the courts.

For further information why not visit our facility, have a look at the notice boards in the Sports Complex or contact Bill Hennessy at 086-8123078.
